When Family Therapy is Needed
- Do you have conversations that repeat over and over in your family?
- You know you need help communicating?
- Are relationships hostile and in conflict?
- Are the relationships non-existent?
Emotionally Focused Family Therapy
Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) seeks to create a feeling of trust, mutual respect, and strong communication within families. Family members are able to discuss issues and disclose feelings. Reduce problematic behavior by creating new patterns of emotional accessibility and responsiveness that offer a secure base and families to thrive. Each member is heard and validated. The family works together to find solutions to problems and build individual relationships between all members.
How Emotionally Focused Therapy helps Families
Conflicts tend to be around times we feel alone and feel our family member is not there for us or we feel attacked and want to flee. Utilizing EFFT, Terri Clinton Dichiser creates feelings of safety, respect and understanding between family members. Families who attend therapy learn the skills necessary to form a secure, validating environment. As individual concerns are brought up the family will better understand one another and discover any underlying emotions that feed the negative patterns. Families learn to change the negative patterns that currently exist and openly express their needs in a healthy way.
As families progress through Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, relationships between members will improve. The family creates a stronger bond together and the wounds that have existed within the family can finally begin to heal.
