Individual Counseling Gives Hope For Long Lasting Resolution To Anxiety And Depression
Individual counseling is available to help you cope with the psychological, physical, and financial aspects of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Recent research shows that Americans are turning to medications for relief, and it demonstrates the serious impact that the coronavirus may be having on our nation’s mental health.
Prescriptions for anti-anxiety medications rose more than 34% between mid-February and mid-March. During the week ending March 15 alone, the use of drugs to ease anxiety spiked by nearly 18%. Antidepressant and insomnia medication use also jumped from mid-February to mid-March. Prescriptions for antidepressants rose 18.6%, and prescriptions for insomnia medications rose nearly 15%.
These figures indicate that people are seeking help and prioritizing their mental health during the COVID-19 crisis, which is great news. Medication is only part of the equation, though. Think of anxiety, depression, and insomnia as an infected wound, and prescription drugs as a bandage. The bandage helps protect the wound and creates an environment conducive to healing, but it will not cure the infection. In this analogy, individual counseling is the antibiotic.
Individual counseling for anxiety and stress because of the coronavirus is available at Take Charge, Inc. Terri Dichiser, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Kansas and Missouri, is offering individual counseling through tele-therapy with video that is available on a phone, laptop, or tablet. It is important to know that you are not alone, and getting the help you need to cope with the social distancing, quarantine, or isolation COVID-19 is forcing on you is one of the most valuable self-care opportunities you can give yourself.
Getting started can often be the hardest part, but it may provide some comfort if you know what to expect going into your first session. Terri will start each session by making sure you feel comfortable, then work collaboratively with you to formulate a treatment plan and review different methods to help you address your needs.
Think of online therapy as a way to get some connection and understanding in an environment that otherwise feels isolating right now because of the coronavirus. Humans are social and need connection to be healthy and whole. Feelings of anxiety, fear and isolation are extremely common in this type of situation, and individual counseling works in tandem with medication to help you manage your mental health and stay connected with the care you need.
