Individual counseling is the perfect outlet to work on your mental wellness. January is mental wellness awareness month and is the time to recognize the importance of attending to our mental health. What better way to start the new year than with a reminder to recharge your mental health? This first month of the new year allows us to check in with ourselves and our loved ones to see how everyone is doing. New Year’s resolutions typically focus on physical fitness, but we should remember that mental health is just as important as physical health. Maintaining mental wellness is not easy, but it is crucial. According to the National Alliance on Mental Health Conditions, 43.8 million, or 1 in 5 adults, suffer from mental health issues annually. Mental Wellness Month serves as a reminder to maintain and sustain your mental health despite the ups and downs in life. Some ways you can participate to try and improve your mental wellness include: 
 
·        Putting your mental health as a priority. Take care of your most valuable relationship with yourself. 
·        Make small changes to address your basic needs.
·        Practice rest. Start getting more sleep.
·        Practice movement every day.
·        Journal for 10 minutes every day.
·        Practice mindfulness. Start breathing exercises, even if you only practice for five minutes daily.
·        Seek therapy and make a commitment to work on yourself, including a commitment to therapy and your mental wellness.
·        Engage in healthy relationships and commit to changing how much time you spend in unhealthy relationships.
 
It is essential to self-assess your mental wellness and seek individual counseling to help manage it. Think about the past two weeks to a month and ask yourself how your mood has been. Have you felt lower than usual? Are you experiencing more anxiety? Having trouble sleeping? Are you feeling hopeless and pessimistic or feeling that life is not worth living?
